Shelton Clean Sweep 2012
Banishing Litter from Shelton, CT
Clean Sweep 2012 is over, but that doesn't mean our efforts to keep our City clean are over. Please see our recognition page. We encourage all residents and businesses to continue picking up litter in their neighborhoods.

The annual Clean Sweep Recognition event with Mayor Lauretti will be held Weds., May 23 at 7:00 pm in the City Hall Auditorium. Refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes.  Invitations have been sent out to those who requested them.  Patches & certificates will be mailed out after the event to those who do not attend. We do have extra patches, so just ask if you like some.

Be a part of the 5th annual Shelton Clean Sweep, which will be held the WEEK of Earth Day, April 22, 2012 through Saturday, April 29.  The registration form is on the left menu.   Volunteers are eligible to receive free patches (they will look like the picture at right) as well as a certificate from Mayor Lauretti.

1.  Find a public place or waterway that needs to be cleaned up.  We have some places listed if you don't have a spot in mind.  There are plenty of open space properties with litter problems, many of our roadways are problem areas, and litter constantly washes into our streams.

2. Organize some volunteers to clean that location, or work alone, whatever works best for you.  We have a neighborhood flyer that can help.

3. Register your cleanup as early as possible so others can see what you plan to clean up and we avoid multiple groups cleaning up the same spot. Note that cleanups do not actually need to be held April 22-29. If some other date in April works better for you, that's fine.

4. Pick up bags and gloves from the Community Center or City Hall (Mayor's office, 2nd floor or from Conservation Agent, Room 102).  NOW AVAILABLE (April 2, 2012).

5. Clean up litter the week of Earth Day, April 22, or whatever works for you.  Consider taking photos for us.

6.  If necessary, call Highways and Bridges to pick up the accumulated litter 203-924-9277 during business hours.  Do not bring the trash home if you plan for Highways and Bridges to make a special trip - leave it along the nearest roadway.

7. File a follow-up report via this website.  If you would like patches and/or certificates, this MUST be done. We will want addresses for anyone who might like to receive an invitation to our recognitions ceremony (TIP:  Kids love getting invitations and awards from the Mayor).
